Module 1: The Geometry of the 12-Piece Silver Cover
Master the mathematical alignment of charger plates, christofle silverware, crystal stemware, and bread plates to within 0.5 centimeters.
Grand Butler Antoine De Montfort demonstrates the measurement, glove etiquette, and crystal triangle alignment.
Protocol: Formal Silver Cover Placement Sequence
Mandatory Execution Steps:
- Lay silence cloth (molleton) followed by starched Irish damask linen, ensuring symmetrical 30cm drop on all sides.
- Position gold/platinum charger plate in center of each seat cover, 2.5cm from edge.
- Lay silverware with white gloves from outside to inside, handles 2.5cm from table edge.
- Place B&B (Bread and Butter) plate on left of the forks with silver butter spreader resting diagonally across plate, blade facing left.
- Position crystal glassware in upper right quadrant: Water goblet directly above meat knife, red wine glass to lower right at 45°, white wine glass below red wine glass.
Critical Safety & Audit Checkpoints:
- Zero fingerprints on silver or crystal.
- Knife serrations must face toward the charger plate, never away.

1.0 The Sacred Table Alignment Standard
Precision Layout for State Banquets and Haute Cuisine
Silver service is governed by mathematical harmony. Every piece of silverware, porcelain, and crystal exists in deliberate dialogue with the host and the guest.
The baseline rule: all silver handles and charger plates must align exactly 2.5 centimeters (1 inch) from the edge of the mahogany banquet table, verified with a ruler or standard silver guide.
Silverware is arranged from the outside inward, matching the progression of courses. The soup spoon sits on the extreme right, followed by fish knife and meat knife (blade facing inward toward plate).
Critical Hygiene & Safety Compliance Checklist
- Wear clean white cotton gloves when polishing and laying silverware to eliminate fingerprints
- Inspect crystal rims with clean cotton swab for micro-chips prior to setting
